Thornton JFC Receive 5-Stars in NCDP

January 31st, 2020

Thornton Junior Football Club has deservedly achieved a 5-Star Rating in Football Federation Australia’s (FFA), National Club Development Program.

Sarah White from Hunter Valley Football (HVF) and Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) Club Development Officer Phillip Andrews attended the club’s January committee meeting to present the club with the significant achievement.

Northern NSW Football’s Club Development Officer Phillip Andrews said it was no surprise the club earned the 5-Star Rating.

“Thornton Junior FC has proven to be an outstanding club highlighted by being awarded ‘Newcastle Permanents Club of the Year’ for 2019 at the Northern NSW Football, Jennings Medal Dinner in addition to being Hunter Valley Football’s Club of the Year 2019.

“The club has outstanding governance and offers a fantastic football experience to all members and visitors to their venue.

“They have invested and supported more than 50 club members to undertake coaching certificates in 2019, ensuring all coaches at the club have coaching accreditation” said Andrews.

The commitment of Thornton Junior FC extends further than the club itself, inviting NNSWF to be a part of their local primary school 100 years celebration.

Cub Secretary, Kristen Birkett said it’s not just the committee who deserve the accolades for the club’s success.

“Many local sponsors contribute significantly to the club, and our effective relationship with Maitland City Council has led to fencing being erected between the football fields and busy road.

“This not only increases the safety of participants but is also integral in securing the venue which is essential for when further facility improvements are undertaken to support the growing player population,” concluded Birkett.

The FFA National Club Development Program was launched nationally in September 2019 and is available to all NNSWF clubs. 13 Northern NSW Clubs have already completed the program with numerous other clubs currently in the works.
