Hunter Valley Football congratulates Wal Davies on being a 2023 recipient of the Bill Turner Memorial Award for Services to Football.
The Bill Turner Award is a prestigious honour, given to someone who has made an outstanding, long-term contribution to the game in northern NSW.
NNSWF presented the award to Mr Davies at the 2023 van Egmond Jennings Awards night on 7th October in front of more than 400 people at Newcastle Exhibition and Convention Centre. Davies, a long-term Executive Member of Hunter Valley Football, has dedicated countless hours to the game in the Hunter having been involved as a player, coach, referee and club committee member over the years in the Cessnock area.
Playing for his local club from 10yrs of age, Wal went on to be selected as a Hunter Region representative youth player and continued to play football throughout his time serving in the Royal Australian Navy.
Wal has volunteered his time for football in the Hunter Valley for over two decades and has been a vital member of Hunter Valley Football and its clubs. Throughout the winter season, his weekends are spent visiting various football grounds throughout the Zone as a HVF representative where he engages directly with club committee, volunteers and participants.
Davies joined the Hunter Valley Football Association Executive Committee as Junior Vice President in 1999 and has held various Executive positions over his 23yr tenure, including being awarded Life Membership at the 2009 Annual General Meeting.
