Crouch receives 2022 Phyllis Avery Memorial Award for Outstanding Service to Football

Hunter Valley Football Association is proud to announce David Crouch as the 2022 recipient of the Phyllis Avery Memorial Award for Outstanding Service to Football.

The Phyllis Avery Award is an esteemed Award intended to appreciate a HVF Member Club or Individual for outstanding service to the game of Football. A recognition of commitment to the values of volunteering and making an outstanding voluntary contribution to football within the Hunter Valley Zone.

HVFA Executives Frank Klaassen, Wal Davies and Peter Kennedy, along with General Manager Sarah White and members of the Avery family presented the award to the David Crouch at Gresford Oval last Saturday, coinciding with the opening of the Club’s new facilities.

Crouch, with his wife Jenny was one of the founders of Gresford Vacy Football Club in 1981, working closely with Phyllis to establish the Club and choose the Club colours.

David has seen all his children, and grandchildren play at the Club with many of them also spending countless hours volunteering. Jenny is the current Club Patron, his son Damien was the President, daughter Amy was the manager of the Womens team for many years, and his other daughter Janette was David’s main helper.

Over the past 10 years David has taken on the role of ground keeper. In that time, the has transformed the grounds to one of the best fields in Hunter.

2022 was a challenging year with the wet weather and the building of their new facilities. Although retired, Dave spent a minimum of 25 hrs a week there helping with the building or preparing the fields, setting the goals, cooking the bbq. Whatever needed to be done.

At the end of the season, Dave then starts preparing the fields for Cricket. He is heavily involved with Bowls, and is a very Proud Veteran, also deeply involved with the RSL of which he recently received Life Membership. Further to this, David is also a Life Member of the Rural Fire Brigade with over 50 years of service. He is dedicated and motivated toward the betterment of the overall community and to his Club.

Dave has given outstanding service to Gresford Vacy FC and to the game of football in general, particularly to Hunter Valley Football Association. A previous recipient of the Hunter Valley Volunteer of the Month, David’s years of voluntary contribution are remarkable.

Together with the Avery family, Hunter Valley Football Association, in honour of Phyllis Avery, took great pride in announcing David Crouch as the 2022 recipient of the Phyllis Avery Memorial Award for Outstanding Service to Football.
