Northern NSW Football is pleased to announce that a number of Skill Training Certificate sessions will be held across the region ahead of the 2021 season.
Five venues are scheduled including Edgeworth, Thornton, Boomerang Beach, Swansea and Tamworth.
The Skill Training Certificate is aimed at coaches of players aged between nine and 12-years-old to help coaches:
- Develop good coaching behaviours to assist in the development of core skills (1 v 1, first touch, running with the ball, striking the ball)
- Plan, organise, and deliver an effective training session
- Use small sided games to challenge and motivate players to learn and develop
- Learn about match day processes
Northern NSW Football Coach Development Officer Jarrad Denham said the Skill Training Certificate was important for aspiring coaches as well as the players under their care.
“This is the most important phase because this sets a good, solid foundation for players in a technical sense so that they’re not playing catch up in the later phases,” Denham said.
“Basically it’s all about the functional skills needed for individual players so that when they move into the older age groups and the game training phase and start to move towards 11 v 11 football, they can put those skills into a team setting. But they need the skills first.
“So skill-based practice and technique practice through game-based learning is what we teach.
“Based on research, we know and understand that these are the most important ages to learn functional movement and skills. The golden age of motor learning.”
The sessions go for six hours plus a follow up and cost $80.
