Northern NSW Football launches rebel Female Football Week 8-15 March 2020

March 9th, 2020

Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) has begun celebrating rebel Female Football Week which was launched on International Women’s Day – Sunday 8 March through to the following Saturday.

Football remains the number one participation sport across the country and NNSWF supported by the ever-increasing growth in female participation which they expect to continue in Season 2020.

Northern NSW Football CEO David Eland said the female participation in football has never been stronger, in 2019 we saw a 4.6% increase in female players across our seven (7) Member Zones.

In 2019, Hunter Valley Football boasted an increase of 3.0% in female players, an exceptional accomplishment and a great foundation for the growth of women in football for the zone.

NNSWF aims to continue to grow these figures and strive for female participation to soar and encourages clubs, players and the community to get in involved in the many rebel Female Football Week events happening across the region.

NNSWF Head of Football, Peter Haynes, said female participation is a key focus for the sport of football.

“There have never been more opportunities for women and girls to be part of the game in 2020,” Haynes said.

“With a number of initiatives and programs during rebel Female Football Week across Northern NSW, I’m confident this year will mark the biggest year in female football throughout region” said Haynes.

Our objective is to drive female participation at all levels of the game; match officials, coaches and of course player participation.

“Having women involved in football and creating a gender balance within in our clubs ensures we have healthy, active and inclusive clubs and communities”, confirmed Haynes.
