Clubs urged to create child safe environment through applying for Certificate of Currency

February 2nd, 2022

With the 2022 football season looming quickly it is important to recognise the important role clubs play in developing and implementing strategies to ensure a child safe environment.

Clubs were invited to apply for their Certificate of Currency insurance certificate late last year, with Northern NSW Football asking clubs to complete three declarations.

  1. Compliance with the NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) legislation.
  2. Supply information on the club’s Member Protection Information Officer. This is the person in every club that members can raise a Member Protection matter with.
  3. Commit to registering all non-playing members, coaches, committee members, managers. Unregistered also means uninsured and restricts access to communications.

“This process creates a great opportunity for clubs to affirm their governance and child safe procedures,” NNSWF Club Development Officer Phillip Andrews said.

“Every year we see new people step into key positions in clubs and we need them to know that there is support and guidance available through the Member Zone offices and the team at Northern NSW Football.”

Northern NSW Football will deliver a series of training opportunities leading into the 2022 season. Registrations are open for the Child Safe – WWCC Training webinar to be delivered on 7 March.
