NNSWF hosts inaugural Marketing Masterclass for community clubs

January 17th, 2022

Northern NSW Football hosted its inaugural Marketing Masterclass for community clubs last week.

NNSWF General Manager Marketing and Communications Mike Collins conducted the online masterclass, giving clubs an insight into expected trends in the Australian sports market for 2022.

That was followed by information on how to create a club’s marketing plan as well as recruitment and retention tactics aimed at players and volunteers.

Collins said the masterclass had been well received.

“The aim was to give clubs the opportunity to see how good marketing plans are put in place, how they can do it themselves and what benefits that can bring to a club,” Collins said.

“Some clubs market themselves really well. But for others it is a potential area for improvement that can see huge advantages.

“The way you market yourself, not just in the football community but the wider community, can have a real impact on how your club is perceived and how successful you are going to be as an organisation.”

Trends for 2022 covered everything from the COVID-19 pandemic to personalisation and experiences as well as community and lifestyle. There were also sections on demographics and technology plus content, social media and direct marketing.

Clubs were also shown how to develop their own marketing plan with tools provided as well as insights into goals and objectives, audiences, brand and messages, tactics, implementation and measurement.

Collins wrapped up the presentation with an important section on recruitment and retention with implementable tactics and strategies for clubs to improve player, coach and volunteer numbers.
