Over 500 players will be heading to the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility (LMRFF), Speers Point this weekend for the Skill Acquisition Program (SAP) Gala Day.
Running on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 August, teams from all over the region including Emerging Jets and Northern NSW Football Newcastle SAP will be divided into three age groups, 10 Years, 11 Years and 12 Years.
Draws have been formulated to provide teams with a variety of opposition from participating Zones and programs over the course of the Gala Day.
Also in conjunction with the Gala Day, NNSWF will facilitate a Boots For Africa (B4A) drop-off zone where members of the local community are encouraged to donate their old football boots to help children in need in poverty stricken parts of Africa.
B4A is a not-for-profit organisation that collects pre‐loved football boots and delivers them to children and young adults across Africa. The charity began in 2011 in Australia and was founded by Sarah Gardner with one of the main goals to make sport more accessible to young people in developing nations.
Not only can those interested donate their old football boots for a worthy cause, but they can also give sports equipment such as shin pads, balls, witches hats head gears etc. to the people of Africa to help build communities and social understandings through the power of the game.
NNSWF encourages all members of the local football community, especially those attending the region’s SAP Gala Day. Clubs, coaches or individuals who may be interesting in learning more about B4A and how they can contribute can contact Sarah Gardner at b4a.australia@gmail.com or visit their website.
