Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) is pleased to announce the Newcastle Permanent Coach of the Month for May 2017 across the zones.
Football enriches character, intelligence, coordination and skill and each season, brave men and women step up to the plate and take on the task of helping our young athletes reach their potential: The Coach.
“It is very pleasing to be able to recognise each of this Month’s winners for displaying the attitudes and behaviours that NNSWF is trying to instil in all Community Coaches,” Community Football Manager, Peter Haynes said.
Each month, one registered coach from each of NNSWF’s seven Member Zones will be awarded the Newcastle Permanent Community Coach of the Month award.
Each winner will receive a Newcastle Permanent Community Coaching kit consisting of 6 balls, 20 markers, 10 bibs and a whistle, as well as a polo shirt and cap, to assist in fulfilling their roles at their respective club.
At the end of the season, each Zone will nominate one community coach from their pool of winners, to represent their Zone for the opportunity to be named “Newcastle Permanent Community Coach of the Year” announced at NNSWF annual awards night.
“Providing an effective learning environment in a safe and fun way is key to each Club to provide a positive football experience to their players and each of this Month’s winners should be commended for their commitment to their club and their team.”
Newcastle Permanent Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mark Williams echoes Haynes sentiments and applauds those who received the award.
“Coaching plays a vital role in developing the skills and attitude of young players, and it is great that Newcastle Permanent can provide the opportunity to recognise the efforts of local coaches who are dedicated to developing their players,” Williams said.
The May Newcastle Permanent Coach of the Month Award recipients from across each of its seven Member Zones are as follows:

Sophie has coached our girl’s teams for the past 2 years. She is currently completing her Year 12 studies and finds time to promote female football. On top of school and her part-time work, Sophie teaches our girls so much and their skill levels are increasing rapidly, the girls all love training and playing under Sophie’s guidance.
Marcus Cutler

I would like to nominate our own Marcus Cutler for “Coach of the Month”. Marcus volunteers 3 nights per week helping (coaching) 2 x teams of Under 14s and Under 16’s in our Club. Last year the Under 14’s had brand new players to the game and Marcus built a happy, strong team who have all re-registered this season. This year he put his hand up to also help our Under 16 Team on a Friday night (and the 14s on a Saturday). Just prior to season kickoff, he also coordinated a ‘beach boot camp’ at Bonny Hills to bring the teams together and build relationships within the club, we had over 35 children attend. Marcus just wants the kids to try their hardest, improve as best they can and have fun! He is particularly passionate about developing those kids with limited soccer skills and you can see the relationship those particular kids now have with their Coach. Thanks Marcus for all the time you put into our Club and your teams.

Ryan is very knowledgeable and helpful to the kids. He is patient and understanding of everyone and is always there to coach regardless of how many show up. He is well planned and has everything scheduled including making sure all kids get the exact same amount of game time. He has developed all the kids on the team, they have a better and more understanding of the game now.

Mel is an absolute SUPERSTAR COACH! Mel is 100% committed to teaching the kids all the skills they need to develop into great players and have a fantastic game. Training is always filled with fun and challenging drills/games for the kids to learn how to become great players. Mel is very switched onto the rules and way of the game and is teaching the kids from this young age how to play properly. Above the skill and rule side of coaching, Mel is very much dedicated to teaching the kids how to be great sportsmen. Mel always encourages teamwork, fairness, honesty and a positive team spirit. The kids always give 110% when they play and work so well together as a team and it’s even more humbling to see the wonderful sportsmanship displayed by all our players whether they win or loose. Our SuperStar Coach Mel definitely deserves NPBS Coach of the Month!

Ian has been a coach of this team for 12 years taking many of them from U6s (and a member of our club committee for as long). He is a quiet man who just gets the job done.
Having a group of teenagers is not an easy task but he is their coach and also a mentor to these kids. Some do not have good parental support but Ian looks out for them as if they were his own. He has managed to take a struggling group of players who could not even field a full team 3 years ago and make them a bunch of friends who are keen to play our fabulous sport as a team who are proud of their club.

Scott is the epitome of a great coach. He loves the game of football and it shows in all his coaching sessions. He has the utmost respect from his team and club. He is organised and ready to go at the right times all while completing Uni and playing Men’s First Grade (Men’s Captain). Scott is the type of person who the club cannot do without. He is never in trouble with officials and has a great rapport with all those he has to do with.

James provides a safe and enjoyable experience for his players and parents. He has a high work ethic and encourages fair play. An example would be when the Wizards are dominating, he adjusts the play and encourages his players to give the opposition a chance to play the ball.
